Everything you need to know about Camp Highlander. See Nuts & Bolts for detailed answers to most questions.
Each summer, we welcome 260 to 300 campers per session, ages 6 to 16. Whether it's their first summer or their sixth, every child leaves with confidence, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories.
Our hiring process includes a detailed application, personal interview, reference checks, and thorough background screenings. All staff complete comprehensive training covering safety procedures, behavior management, and role-specific instruction before camp begins.
Each cabin includes up to 10 campers and at least two dedicated counselors. This close-knit cabin unit becomes your camper's family away from home, creating bonds that help them feel known, valued, and confident.
Campers enjoy over 25 activities on camp—from pottery and cooking to rock climbing and kayaking. Those staying two weeks or longer also experience off-camp excursions into Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State Forest.
In recent years, Camp Highlander has welcomed campers from 32 different states and 20 different countries, creating a vibrant and diverse community that feels like family.
CHIF stands for our four core values: Courage, Honesty, Integrity, and Faith. These principles are the foundation of everything we do and are instilled in every camper and staff member.
